I have curly hair and I want to get a perm, but one that straightens your hair...?

A few questions.

1) How much does it cost?

2) My mom says she started getting permswhen she was my age and it ruined her hair. I say I'm only going to get it straightened once, and I will. Do you think it'll be easy to stand by that promise? I really only want to get it done once.

3) How long will it last?

4) What will I have to do to take care of it?

Also just tell me if you think it's worth it and any other info you have for me. Thankss

I have curly hair and I want to get a perm, but one that straightens your hair...?

1) cost depends on the hair dresser

2) but it will do some dammage to your hair however the degree of the damage can varry on the condition that your hair is already in

3)it will last untill your hair grows out enough where you can cut the chemicaly straighted hair off. however the hair that grows out will not be straight it will be cirly.

4) youll do exactly like a perm dont use hot irons on it or blowdryers for a while after you get it.

* If you dont like straightning your hair every day sure, however if you like it youll have to get it done ever other month or every month depending on how fast you hair grows, and thats when the damage starts to happen

* Oh and FYI perms that straighten your hair are not called perms they are called chemical straightners

i personally dont think it is worthy it cause i have curly hair too but i just straightening it every day because if you do it will just get frizzier again and if it does use some friuitis, weightless anti-frizz serum its in a clear round bottle

i got one in china and it cost about $100 but that included the wash and cut. and it varies how long YOU want it to last. mine is supposed to last for 2 years. its been a year already and its still pretty much straight. you wont have to take care of it. but if you blow dry after washing your hair it will be a little more straight after getting it permed. as for #2. it depends on you. it didnt really damage my hair.

The cost depends on whether you get it done professionally or you do it yourself.

You can do it yourself safely---after all, a straightener is just a perm combed through your hair without the curlers. You can get one from any beauty supply store---Sally's, etc.--- and they are not expensive. Perms are much less damaging to hair than they used to be. As far as how easy it will be to sticking to just getting one, that's really dependent on you.

It will last until your hair grows out---since hair grows at about 1/2 inch per month, then it should last at least a year without you noticing much curl coming back.

You don't need to do anything special to take care of it--past the 24-hour rule about washing after a perm.

As long as you get a good conditioning perm, then it's worth it, and it won't hurt your hair.

If you don't like it straight---well, then you just have to be patient until it grows out.

I have wavy hair and got a "reverse perm" or whatever it's called. The lady combed on the solution several times and kept having to use more because one part of my hair refused to straighten. And I have very loose waves. I paid $80 for something that didn't work. If you get your hair permanently straightened, it can cost up to $500, depending on where you go. I have a friend with extremely coarse hair who had this done. Her hair looks fantastic now, but even once in a while it still has waves in it without her doing anything to it. Plus it needs continuous visits to keep it straight. The permanent straightening lasts until your hair grows out where as the chemical relaxers last for probably around 4 to 6 months. But in my opinion, totally not worth it.

When I was 12 I had the perfect hair. It was straight but with a very loose curl at the ends. I could do anything with it and would kill for hair like that now.

At 13 I got a "body wave." It's, basically, a mild perm. Loose curls. It NEVER grew out. Feel free to email me and I will send you a "now" pic and a "before" pic to prove it.

Straightening your hair is even more damaging than perms. The way the shaft of the hair needs to be reshaped in order for it to be straightened requires a lot more degradation of the hair. You will only end up battling frizz far worse than anything you know now. It will make your hair far more fine and dry and, thus, far more prone to frizzing and harder to de-frizz.

The best thing you can do is learn to love the hair you have. No matter how curly it may be there are some really killer styles for it. Way better than anything you can do with straight hair.

Don't trust your stylist. I've yet to go to a salon and not have to argue with my stylist about straightening it even just with a blow dryer. Heck, a blow dryer is instant frizz to my hair curly or straight. As far as I can tell stylists want to make everyone's hair straight.

Instead, experiment with mousses, gels, hair spray, silicone products, dryers, and air drying. Try different combinations of all. Learn to work with your curls to make them sexy and sultry. Straight hair can't do that.

I use a mousse, a few drops of a silicone shine enhancer and, when I wear it down (or am in the sun), a chlorine/sun protection spray that helps a lot to define the curls but keep them soft and not all jerri curl looking.
