Chemically straightening "afro-ish" white "tween's" hair?

I have a daughter whose hair is out of control. We have permed it (looks good but hard to manage), flat irons don't work real well her hair is still very puffy after (have tried it wet, dry, with gel without, with mousse, with hot ironing smoothing stuff, to no avail). Would a chemical straightener tame her hair? Also, with her age (verrry close but not quite hit puberty completely), would that have any effect on the chemicals?

I would go and get thermal reconditioning/straightening done. It's expensive, but her hair will stay straight until the roots come in. It shouldn't be affected by puberty either. I had TR (abbreviation...also a good search term for the web) done and my hair was pin straight. A good stylist will be able to do it on your girl's type hair.

I would consult a hairsylist with my daughter there that way you can get an accurate answer.

Have you tried a hot iron?

You might just have to spend that extra money for a good flat iron. You also may have gotten a flat iron that wasn't that great as fas as quality is concerned and that makes all the more difference.

Hormones will have some affect on her hair. It will likely change well into her twenties. Chemically straitening her hair will help to tame it but, it will mean taking care not to damage it. It will not make it very straight and you will still have to physically straighten it with something. A hair wrap will work well without doing a lot of damage. You cannot straighten hair that has been curled chemically with a permanent wave solution. A relaxer on this hair will cause it to melt. You need to know what type of curling solution is on her hair now. Even if it was done months ago, sever damage will occur if you use the wrong chemicals.

i not sure how thick her hair is, but you can go "old school" and use what most african-americans use in our hair. it is called a pressing comb and it will straighten the tightest hair in the world.
