Is there a difference between blowdrying to DRY your hair, and blowdrying to STRAIGHTEN your hair?

Just wanna know .

If people say that the hair straightener (even a good GHD one) is a bad as blowdrying your hair, do they mean when you straighten with the blowdryer?

Because I just dry my hair with the blowdryer occasionally, and im worried that its bad that i do .. because supposedly blowdrying is as bad as hairstraightening!

And im confuzzled.

Hair straightening applies more heat to your hair causing it to damage much faster

to an extent it is, because no matter what, you're adding heat to your hair. Using a hair straitner is the worst because it get's the hottest. Straitning your hair with a hair dryer is the second worst because when you use a dryer and a brush, the dryer has direct contact with the hair. Lastly, is just drying you hair with a hair dryer.

Well Straightening your hair with a blow dryer damages your your hair just as much as if you are just blow drying your hair to get it dry. However straightening your hair with a straightener [no matter how nice, or expensive] is much worse because your hair is coming in contact with direct heat =( thats where the saying "beauty comes with a price" comes into play. Hope I helped ;)

They are referring to heat damage .That means with all hot tools. Yes it's just as bad. But I wouldn't worry unless you are doing it more that once a day, or holding the dryer too close to your hair or blow drying while your hair is dripping wet.

Apply a leave in conditioner while it is wet. Also there are moisturizing hair products. I like John Frieda. As long as you add moisture before you blow dry/straighten it won't damage it so much, especially if it's only occasionally. If you have steam come from your hair, your doing it right.

Also, avoid products that contain alcohol. They dry your hair out.

All heating tools --hand dryers ,curling irons ,hot combs, flat irons--damage your hair especially if you use them on a regular basis

Always when you are going to use heat on your hair use some kind of product designed to protect your hair from the heats damage, especially if you use a straightener. When you blowdry to straighten you use a round brush so yes there is a difference in drying to straighten or to dry the hair.
