How well does professional hair straightening work?

I have very thick hair that frizzes. How long does a staightening last? How much does it cost? Would you reccommend it?

My friend had her very, VERY coarse wavy hair straightened by some sort of ionic straightening process, which is apparently completely different from the old chemical relaxing process. It was amazing, her hair was pin straight and softer than ever, and she only needed it done like once a year, for the new growth. But it was pretty expensive, like in the hundreds of dollars range.

have heard its really good! i am considering having it done too

Well...they're pretty expensive, or so I've heard. I have heard that they will only last a couple of days-maybe one week if your even lucky. I wouldn't recommend it, because your hair will is being fried practically and I think that spending over $15 or $20 for that is just a waste of money.

Use Frizzies, I heard that stuff helps. :)

It works great, but as your hair grows you have to get the roots touched up, just like in coloring your hair. Cost depends on how much hair you have and where you get it done...

It is good, but as your hair grows out, then the roots will make it really fluffy. You will have to use a flat iron on the roots until you can get it redone.

I had mine done right after my daughter was born. I had mine done at fantastic sams. As far as the price goes it depends how much chemical it takes i.e. how long and thick your hair is. If you decide to get it done, the only way it will STAY straight, you have to blow dry it. and sometimes you have to use a straight iron. You have to get it redone every year or so because of new growth.

I'm a hairstylist and I can tell you that the cost will depend on the length and amount of hair you have, since it is a very time consuming process. It will probably be at least $300 and go up from there. It lasts permanently, but you will have regrowth to keep up with every couple of months just like with haircolor. A really good thing you might try is the Tourmaline Wet Dry Iron. It drys as it straightens and works great. It retails for around $200 but you can find them on Ebay for less than that.

it does work. and for me the straightening lasted 2-3 months...and as for cost, that depends on where u get it straightened and the length of ur hair. when i got mine straightened for the first time it cost me only $50 because my sis-in-law used to work at a salon and had a friend that did the straightening.the second time it cost $150 but before when my hair was longer then my shoulders it cost $400.i would recommend it IF u can go 3 days withought washing ur hair and have to be mindful that its not folded or bended in any way or ur hair will stay like that. also, because the straightening is using chemicals its kills the crap out of ur hair. my ends are strarting to fry!!! =[ . and i havent experienced it but ive seen people who went in and got their hair straightend and now their hair looks like a frizz ball!!! it was worse then when they came in. but i think thats rare so no worries!!! if ur ok with the possible conseqences and u got the money then go for it!!!

heres some pics of me:

You should get a CHI thermal straightener. It is kind of expensive, depending on where you are, but around $200-$300.That is the only one that I would recommend. But you have to be sure that the person who does it is experienced in that, because if not, then you will have a problem. I think it is the best one out today. Good Luck!
