I have it on the setting 28, and there's 30, it's highest to lowest and stuff, but it hasn't like, caught fire or anything, but it keeps smoking whenever it gets on my hair, but it stops after, like, a puff of smoke comes up after I straighten my hair, it's like it comes from my hair when my hair and my straightener meet, It isn't defected is it???

No not really mine youst to do that its because you have alot of humidity in your hair or the oils sometimes or sometimes it can because your hair is still wet!! good luck best thing would be to ask a hairstylist ;)

if you use anything like a gel or spray, that might be why it is smoking. Be sure to wash it( when it is off of course!)

First things first, are you using Thermal Protectant? I hope so. Secondly, that thing you're using is crap, not to mention a hazzard. Toss it. Check out the ghd styling iron. well is ur hair wet? because if it is you should not use it when it is wet unless it is recomended from ur straightner. i have a chi $200.00 straightner and it smokes when i stragihn it but i think it is ok.( it is profesinal) so go and find out about your straightnerso you dont worry.

I don't believe that it is in fact smoke that you are seeing. Is your hair completely dry when you attempt to straighten it? If not, then it is probably a good amount of steam that you're seeing. When your hair releases that much moisture it is definately not good for it. There really isn't that much difference between one straghtener or the next. Everythings bad for your hair, even brushing it. I still straighten mine, just not every day.

When you straighten your hair be sure it's completely dry!!!

My mother is a hairdresser so I'm familiar with those things pretty much. And never use oils or gels before you straighten your hair, use them afterwards. And I don't thing that your hair straightener is broken. Just try cleaning it with a wet piece of cotton when it isn't heated.

To answer your question, first of all don't panic, nothing is wrong with your flat iron. What happens is the product you put in your hair (grease, serum, hair spray) reacts with the heat and you get that smoking effect that you see. I work with them everyday so I know how they work.

this means that your setting is too high! you need to turn it down to about 10-15. it is smoking because it is to high for your hair to handle and your hair is getting burned. if it continues to smoke after you turn it down, get a new one because there might be something wrong with it also
