What size of plates are best on a flat iron, to straighten hair?

It seems like there are a lot of choices -- 1 inch, 3/4, 1/2, etc. etc. Which one would you recommend for thick, curly hair?

i wouldnt say it's so much about size...but more about quality! i myself have the worst curly, frizzy hair in the world!!! i have a friend that has silky nice hair and finally asked her what her secret was.........its mainly shampooing with the right shampoo and conditionor...thats where it starts! Redken so soft! leaves my hair like nothing ive ever felt..i cant believe its on my head! loL...and then i splurged on a 200$ straightner by paul mitchell its all ceramic and has lime green plates....its the best thing that has happened to my hair! and im glad i actually found a solution....expensive....but worth it!

If you have thick curly hair, plus it's long, then go with the largest plate possible. You'll get results much faster, since it can straighten a larger portion of hair

even though it might seem like the bigger once get the job done quicker they don't really do such a great job. its better to have a smaller one bc they are more precise. just make your hair is completely dry (bc if there is moisture in your hair it will return to its natural state which for you is curly) and do it in small pieces...it make take longer but will give you the best results.

Like someone else said its not too much about the size of the plate but the quality of the iron. I have a chi iron and I use the 1 inch plate and I have medium length hair below my shoulders. If you have long thick hair I probably wouldnt go with a small iron because you will be straightening for days.
