Does anyone know any secrets to hair straightening?

I have been straightening every day for the past 2 years of my life, and cannot live without my hair straightener. I'm afraid to get my hair Japanese Straightened too. I have wavy-curly hair that frizzes easily.

use something to protect hair from heat before and after blow drying straight.

flat iron methodically from nape to crown and sides.

comb thru scalp area, apply flat iron and pull down the hairshaft together slowly.

do not use anything with glycerine in it!(will make it more frizzy)

GOOD GIRL for not getting the japanese straightening thing done.

I use a large round boars head brush because it grips the hair better (less drying time), also I use Tony and Guy Bed Head in the green can but you can use any over the counter product. The secret is the boars head large round brush.

put some light oil on your hair to keep it from damaging. then use whatever staightener you have. a chi is what i would recommend.

you should always try brushing it out straight with a rectangular brush with wide bristles after towel drying your hair, and it's like, 60-70 % dry, minimum, or else it could break. Blow dry it straight with the comb and a good hairdryer (Conar is good). Then, use a flat iron and slowly go down with it, in a straight motion, you know what to do then!! So, -

Use some kind of product or your hair will get fried. Do small sections at a time.

If you can find it, get Matrix's "sleek look lock in system". I get mine from my salon, and it is like 12 bucks. Spritz it on before you straighten your hair. it locks out moisture better than any other product that I have ever tried (and believe me, I've tried almost all of them!!!). Your hair will steam and smell funny for a minute, but that's just the system doing it's thing. to keep it really straight for 2 or 3 days, I do it one day, and the next few days, instead of getting it wet and washing it, I put baby powder on it to keep it from getting oily.

just before you iron it, spray a little oil sheen in your hair, not a lot or it will literally fry your hair just a little, then when your done ironing it most of the oil sheen should be dried out, just spray n a little bit more and brush through and smooth out. dont use too much oil sheen, or your hair will b nasty greasy. your hair will be silky smooth and beautiful if you do it right tho.
