Wash hair before straightening?

I have fine, dry, hair with random waves in it-Should I wash my hair the night before and straighten it in the morning or wash it in the morning and straighten it while its still damp? Which way will give me the longer lasting stragihtness?

Hey sweetie. I've been straightening my hair for 3 years now and I have a hair stylist also. Do NOT straighten your hair wet. When I get my hair done she washes it, blow drys it, uses Chi Silk Infusion on it and then uses a Chi flat iron. The flat iron is anywhere between 120-200 dollars depending on where you go and they have different colors and stuff. And the Silk Infusion is about 12 dollars for a small bottle. It's expensive but it works and keeps your hair looking and feeling smooth and healthy. =]

Don't wash then straighten, it'll damage your hair. I wash mine at night, let it dry, and straighten at night. Then the next moring I just go over it real quick.

You really shouldnt straighten wet hair with an electrical device. Maybe when its dry its better.

wash it the night before and straighten in the morning. Keep your hair in a loose braid after you wash it so it will be slightly damp when you straighten it.

Do not wash your hair the day of. You need the natural oils in your hair before a harsh chemical treatment. they help reduce the damaging affects.

The way that will last longer is if you wash it in the morning and then straighten it after you have blow dried it. Use some kind of frizzy hair gel stuff, and it will help you to straighten your wavy hair and make it last longer. I think the gel is BED HEAD.

Try washing your hair and than blow drying it before you straighten. But whatever you do DO NOT straighten your hair while it is still wet. This will cause major damage to your hair. If you wash your hair at night, blow dry it first and then straighten it. Than straighten it again in the morning. Try that and see if it works.

You should wash your hair the night before, and leave in whatever you usually use for your hair. Let it dry over night and straighten it in the morning. If you straighten it when it's damp it will dry and damage your hair.

Wash your hair then you MUST apply a serum to protect your hair from heat. Towel dry your hair wait a few hours before you straighten or you can use a blow dryer and use the cool air instead of hot air because hot air will make your hair more dry and dead. You need to ALWAYS use a serum to protect hair from over drying. Like garnier fructis sleek and shine, Paul mitchell silky smooth serum, or biosilk smoothing serum. They all work great and I've used them all. You want to blowdry and leave it a little damp. Your hair will straighten better this way. Think of ironing a shirt and when we use the steam part and wet and iron it flattens better and faster. I was told to never straighten hair when it's all dry that way kills your hair more and your hair becomes more fragile.

My hairdresser says that the single worst thing you can do to your hair is use a flat iron on wet or damp hair. I always wash my hair in the morning, so I have to dry it before I straighten it. I have thick hair, but the trick I use is to wrap it in a towel for at least five minutes, and then air dry it for five more. Then I blow dry it, and it doesn't take that long. It seems like a long process, but it isn't really.

The worst thing you can do to your hair is wash and then right after use a flat iron. Dont ever do that. You dont know how much i have damaged my hair from that. Dont ever try doing that. Always wash your hair at night and straighten i nteh morning. It will give you better results because your hairstyle will last longer. But if you absolutely have to wash it in the morning, then make sure its dry before you straighten.
