I have wavy hair, longer and a little dry.
What's the best way to straighten hair? Professionally or flat iron if so what type of iron?
Relaxers wont make it stick straight, and arent permanent. Flat irons are nice if you want it really straight, but dont over use it or you will damager your hair (get an intense conditioning mask anyway). You can also go to a salon for a conditioning treatment once a month- about $15. Make sure the iron is a ceramic iron- it does less damage, and you'll want at least 200 watts. And expect to pay at least $40. The best place to buy is at a beauty supply store (like Sally Beauty Supply or Maly's).

flat iron...professionally is meant for coarse hair!i have your have from what it sounds. don't professionally straighten it...its nice to have dimension to your hair...with professional straightening your hair has no wave at all!(straight and flat..and it kills your hair)[[split ends and rough]] buy a thin straightener so that your can get as close to the hair line as possible.
hope i helped

I recommend the Solia flat iron with the blue ceramic plates. I've had mine for 5 years now and it works great on my thick, course, curly hair. I purchased it from www.folica.com for about $88. It heats up to 450 degrees.

I use a Remington Wet2Straight flat iron and I love it because the heat setting can be adjusted. My hair looks very shiny afterwards. It's about $30-40 but well worth it!
