hii i have curly hair and straighten it about once a week...is it damaging to my hair?? what can i use to protect it?? btw my straightener is Conair and its ceramic
Is Straightening your hair bad? Once a week isn't too bad. I used to straighten my hair every single day...I stopped recently because my hair was getting too damaged, and I let my hair go back to it's normal waves, but it's not the same way it used to be; it's fried! There's split ends everywhere and it's baad.
So as long as you only do it once in a while I think it's okay. Just use repairing shampoo and don't let the straightener heat up too much so it ends up completely burning your hair (I've had some nasty burns on my ear from letting my straightener get too hot lol)
What do you do with your hair when you don't straighten it? I mean like do you just leave it how it is naturally or do you curl it or something? Cause generally too much heat is not good for your hair, so anything like curling, crimping, or straightening uses that heat.
So yes, not to scare you or anything lol, just advising that using too much heat on your hair can damage it =P (then again, keeping in mind that my hair is like this after like...4 months of straightening it about 4 or 5 times a week...so that's A LOT lol)
P.S. I think I use the same or similar hair straightener as you lol :)

Is Straightening your hair bad? once a week is great! i do it everyday, and it's horrible. but i recently started use this CHI hair protecter, and i love it! it comes in a red bottle, i'm not sure of the name though. i tested it also. i sprayed it on one side of my hair, but not the other. i then straightened my hair as usual. when i felt the side with chi sprayed into it, it was not as hot as the other unsprayed side! good luck =]

I personally straiten my hair at least once a day. i have been told it is bad to. but my stylest at the salon I get my hair cut at, says it isnt as long as your careful. what you need to get is a heat protectant. thats what will help keep your hair nice when you straiten it and wont damage it.

However, if you only do it once a week, it should not do too much damage.
Just make sure you use good products (shampoo, conditioner, straightner) and try and not wash your hair every day. The more you do to hair, the more the natural oils are stripped and that is what causes dry/brittle hair.
You might also want to do a deep conditioner once a week.

Is Straightening your hair bad? It's very damaging to your hair so make sure you use really good shampoo and conditioner (ask your hairdresser to recomend a good one for you). Also, you should try to use a product which conditions while you heat style (you can buy them anywhere...Target, Walmart, etc) and if it becomes too damaged use a protien treatment (Chocolate Head by Bed Head is excellent). Is Straightening your hair bad? There are many heat activated styling creams. Alberto has one as well as Thermasilk and many many other brands. Once a week is not bad at all but I would definitely recommend a protector. You can also just use a leave in conditioner. Be sure to use a good regular conditioner as well, and if you find your hair is being damaged try a hair mask.
Straightening is slightly damaging but the amount you do it, you'll be fine. Especially with a styling protector. And it's excellent that it's ceramic. Not ceramic could damage you hair more.
